ROOF MOUNTED BIKE RACKS:

Q: Do I need to have a roof rack fitted to my car first?
A: Yes, all of the roof mounted bike racks available fit onto a pair of car roof bars.

Q: Do I need to have Thule roof bars for the bike racks to fit?
A: In most cases, the bike racks will fit onto other manufacturers roof racks. Either fitting around the bars or using what is called a “T-track” adapter kit. (see picture)

Q: How many bike racks can I fit onto the roof of my car?
A: In most cases, you should be able to fit up to 4 bike racks on the roof.  They have to be arranged alternatively, (forwards, backwards, forwards, backwards etc.)  Each bike rack requires roughly 30CM of fitting space on the bars.

Q: Are the bike racks lockable to the roof rack?
A: Yes, all of our roof mounted bike racks lock to your roof bars.

TOW BAR MOUNTED BIKE RACKS:

Q: What type of tow bar do I have?
A: There are 3 main different types of tow balls (pictured below)

Bolt On Tow Ball Swan Neck Tow Ball
Bolt On
Swan Neck
Detachable
This type is identified by two large bolts holding the ball on to a plate on the car. Swan necks bend round and are attached underneath the car. Detachable tow bars are held in place with a locking pin and can be removed from the vehicle when not in use.

Q: Will the bike racks fit onto my tow bar?
A: In most cases the answer is yes.  All of our bike racks will fit any tow bar with the exception of the Bolt on 9705.  This bike rack can only be fitted to the bolt on type tow ball (pictured above)

Q: What if my car has a spare wheel on the back?
A: Provided the ball of the tow ball is clear of the spare wheel (see diagram) then you can use the bike racks.  If you have a bolt on type tow ball, extension plates can be added by your local tow bar fitter to extend the ball past your spare wheel.

Q: Are the tow bar mounted bike racks lockable?
A: With the exception of the Bolton 9705, Yes - with the optional lock accessory (part number 957) the Euroway and Euroclassic come with a lock included with the bike rack.

Q: Can I still access the boot of the car when using a bike rack?
A: Most of our bike racks have a tilt function so it is generally possible to use the boot / tailgate on the car, even when the bikes have been fitted to the car.  In rare cases, (especially on sideways opening rear doors) the door will hit the bike rack.

Q: How do the bike racks attach to my towball?
A: The bike racks fit onto the ball itself.  There are no straps or supports coming into contact with the car making
them very easy to fit. The Euroway has a rachet handle built into it to tighten on and the EuroClassic has a pull down handle.
The Bolton 9705 uses the existing bolts in your bolt on tow ball and all the rest use a special spanner which is provided in the box.

Q: Do I need to have an extra lighting board and number plate?
A: If you purchase a bike rack that doesn’t have a built in lighting board and your lights/number plate is obscured, then you will need to buy a separate lighting board.
